She told the students that “cancer is not a death sentence”.
According to her, “Whenever you observe or see any changes or lump in your breast or any part of your body, quickly report to your parents or guardians who should take you to the nearest medical facility for screening”. She told the students that the information on cancer is important for both boys and girls, because both genders are at risk of even breast cancer, though the population of men is very low and negligible, “We are bringing this information on breast cancer to you, so that you are equipped and also help us pass it to other members of the society, so that we can together with the right information fight cancer”
Precious Fasiku told the students on what is cancer, breast cancer, risk factors, symptoms and how to live a healthy lifestyle. She also did a dummy demonstration on self breast examination and also asked some of the students to explain her demonstration in order to determine if they understood it, to the admiration of all, the students about 3 who were picked out of about 200, performed the demonstration excellently well.
In his presentation, Nelson Ekujumi made it known that cancer is not a death sentence, that it’s treatable and curable only if detected early. In his response to some of the questions posed by the students during the feedback session, he told them that “Cancer is not caused by curses, witches and wizards, but is a consequence of factors such as family genealogy, lifestyle and human condition as we age”.
Re-echoing Precious Fasiku, he made it known that “observing, seeing and touching changes or lumps in our breast and or body is not a confirmation that the person has cancer, but only by submitting for screening at health institutions and not religious institutions is the way to diagnose the change or lump”.
Nelson Ekujumi then told the students to assist the Oyenike Oyekan foundation spread the message of the war against cancer by passing the knowledge acquired to family members and friends.
According to him, “We all have Daddy, mummy, uncles, aunties and even friends, so we must tell them what we have heard about breast cancer, that it’s treatable and curable only if detected early”.
