Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday raised car refurbishment loan for civil servant from N100 million to N1billion.

Sanwo-Olu made this known at the swearing-in of the 22nd Head of Service in Lagos State, Shuareeb Olajide Agoro.

He said the car refurbishment loan is for all cadres of Civil servants

Agoro, who was appointed as Head of Service in September, took over from Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who retired voluntarily after his appointment as the Principal Private Secretary to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sanwo-Olu, at the swearing-in ceremony of Agoro in Alausa, Ikeja, congratulated him for taking “on the huge responsibility of providing direction and leadership to the most vibrant and progressive public service in Nigeria.”

The governor expressed confidence in Agoro’s “capability and capacity to successfully lead the Lagos State Public Service, and to build on the legacy and achievements of his predecessors.”

“My confidence and trust are predicated on his exemplary contributions and remarkable dedication and professionalism. He has displayed these attributes over the years in his journey as a public servant, particularly in the various Ministries and Departments that he has served, and as Permanent Secretary of Lands Bureau,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He said that in recognition of the important role, the public service sector plays in the governance matrix and in the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people, his administration has always prioritised the welfare of Lagos State public servants.

According to Sanwo-Olu: “For instance, in January this year, we unilaterally increased salaries by 20 percent.

“This is over and above what is obtainable in any other state in the federation. In addition, we procured and made available more buses to transport staff to and from work, thereby significantly reducing their transportation costs, especially following the removal of oil subsidy.

“We have also ensured that houses are reserved for public servants in the various housing projects that we have undertaken in the state. These are just a few of our initiatives to support Lagos State public servants. Our administration will remain committed to staff welfare and training.”

In his speech, Agoro, who thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the state as HoS, also commended his predecessor, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, for recommending him for service.

Agoro pledged to perform his official duty diligently, eschew and expose corruption, follow the path of justice, honesty and concord among the people of Lagos State and Nigeria in general.

He promised to further improve the working condition of civil servants in the state, promote their welfare and training across all cadres.
