Okupe writes Momodu, sets Record Straight, Clarifies Political Affiliations

Former Presidential Spokesperson, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has written an open letter to a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele, addressing various issues and setting the record straight on his political affiliations and stance on the current administration.

In the letter, Okupe commended Reno Omokri’s response to Dele’s article, describing it as a “masterpiece” filled with unassailable facts and demonstrating a deep understanding of the issues at hand. He also clarified his role in past administrations, stating that he only served as an adviser in the Obasanjo and Jonathan administrations, and not in the Yaradua administration as Dele claimed. Okupe emphasized that his involvement in these administrations was focused on providing guidance and support to drive progress and development in the country.

Okupe defended his associations with Bukola Saraki and Peter Obi, comparing them to Dele’s current association with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He noted that these relationships were built on shared values and a commitment to the betterment of Nigeria, rather than political expediency. Okupe emphasized that his support for these individuals was not driven by personal gain, but rather a desire to see capable leaders succeed in their endeavors.

The former spokesperson also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s bold initiatives, such as the removal of fuel subsidy and sectoral equalization of the forex market. While acknowledging that these reforms have caused temporary hardships, Okupe believes that they are necessary steps towards achieving long-term economic growth and stability. He praised the government’s efforts to mitigate the effects of these reforms and urged continued diligence in addressing the concerns of Nigerians.

Okupe emphasized his objective and supportive stance, stating that he is not a member of the opposition and wishes the government well. He believes that constructive criticism and support can coexist, and that it is possible to acknowledge progress while still pushing for improvement. Okupe concluded by acknowledging Dele’s generosity in forgiving a $20,000 debt and wished him well, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining positive relationships despite political differences.

This letter has sparked interest in the political sphere, as it highlights the complexities of political affiliations and the importance of fact-based discourse. Okupe’s thoughtful and nuanced approach to political engagement serves as a model for constructive dialogue and collaboration, even in the face of disagreement.
