Ekiti Assembly has called for the upward review of salaries and other emoluments packages for its members.

Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye said an upward review of their pay was long overdue, noting that the current Assembly members are earning what members of the 4th Assembly earned 12 years ago.

Aribasoye made the appeal on Saturday at a one-retreat organised for Ekiti State House of Assembly members held at the Ikogosi warm resort, Ikogosi-Ekiti.

The Speaker, who decried the lawmakers’ salary structure, said that the  amount they are  earning was not sufficient to cater for their constituents’ humongous  needs.

According to him: “When you look at the humongous request members receive everyday, the Assembly is still earning what the then members of the fourth Assembly are earning.

“You have to manage the expectations of people and manage your own resources so that all will work together and for the common good of our people and the development of the State.

“We won’t do less and we are upping our game. We will ensure that we have laws that are live impacting that touches even the vulnerable members of the society.”

Aribasoye reiterated the readiness of the 7th Assembly to come up with necessary people-oriented legislation that will fast-track sustainable socioeconomic growth and development in the state.

The Speaker pledged the commitment of the legislators to quality representation, noting that the interest of the people of the state remained the most important in their legislative agenda.

Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji urged the lawmakers to be has more diligent in carrying out its oversight of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
