Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reassured residents that every part of the State will benefit from his administration’s urban regeneration initiative.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to delivering quality infrastructure to enhance the lives of Lagosians during the inauguration of five key road networks with improved drainage systems in Ikeja GRA, within Ikeja Local Government Area, on Thursday.

The inaugurated roads include Oba Dosumu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodu, and Sasegbon Streets. Together, these roads span a total length of 6.134 kilometres, complementing earlier upgraded roads such as Isaac John, Joel Ogunnaike Street, Oba Ladejobi, and Harold Shodipo.

The rehabilitated roads are expected to ease vehicular movement, improve connectivity, and enhance drainage systems to address recurring flooding in the area.

Speaking at the event organised by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the project would significantly contribute to socio-economic growth, improve residents’ quality of life, and positively impact Lagos State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He stated: “The rehabilitated roads and drainage systems will mitigate flooding and erosion, reduce traffic congestion and commute times. They will also enhance safety and security, improve the aesthetics of the environment, and increase property values.

“More importantly, the completion of this network of roads is expected to further boost business turnover, ultimately contributing to the growth of the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”

The Governor added: “This achievement would not have been possible without your support and commitment. We have devoted significant time, energy, and resources to implementing strategies for a better Lagos for ourselves and future generations, and it is gratifying to see these efforts yielding results.

“The mandate you have given us continues to inspire our commitment to transform our vision of a Greater Lagos into reality. As we consolidate this mandate, we assure you that we will intensify our efforts to build a Lagos that is safe, prosperous, and economically vibrant, providing an enabling environment for inclusive growth.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged GRA Ikeja residents to consider the project as their own and tasked the Community Development Association (CDA) with ensuring responsible use of the roads.

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who was present at the event, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his strides in development and good governance in Lagos.

Fayose praised the Governor for transforming Ikeja as the State’s capital and encouraged him to continue his efforts for humanity.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, highlighted that the project is part of the administration’s urban regeneration policy, focused on rehabilitating and upgrading critical road networks across the State.

He remarked that the completed road networks would ease vehicular movement, enhance connectivity, and improve stormwater management to combat recurrent flooding in the area.

Governor Sanwo-Olu is set to inaugurate an additional 4.7 kilometres of arterial roads on Friday in the Akoka, Bariga, and Gbagada axis of Lagos State.
