Lagos Govt Concludes Payment of Compensation Cheques to Deserving Affected Residents of Oworonshoki Regeneration Exercise

The Lagos State government today Friday 24th of October 2025, concluded the payment of compensation cheques to deserving residents affected by the Oworonshoki regeneration exercise.

Today’s presentation of cheques to deserving residents at the palace of the paramount ruler of Oworonshoki the Oloworo of Oworonshoki kingdom in Kosofe local government council area of Lagos State had in attendance the Lagos State government team led by the GM of LASURA TPL Oladimeji Animashaun, the member representing Kosofe State constituency I honourable Ganiyu Babatunde Sanni, executives and members of CDC and CDA’s of the community, affected residents, youths, civil society organizations leaders, security agencies personnel, members of the media, among others.

In his opening remarks, LASURA GM TPL Animashaun while welcoming all to the ceremony, informed the gathering that the payment of cheques to deserving residents which started yesterday Thursday October 23rd 2025, was in fulfillment of the promise made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to compensate deserving residents who were affected by the Oworonshoki regeneration exercise.

TPL Oladimeji Animashaun poured encomium on Governor Sanwo-Olu for been a promise keeper, he also lauded the tireless efforts of Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde the Special Adviser to the Governor on E-GIS, and the Permanent Secretary office of urban development Lagos State Ministry of physical planning and urban development Arc Gbolahan Oki for faithfully and diligently seeing to the fulfillment of payment of compensation to affected residents.

TPL Animashaun made it known that the payment of cheques were in batches, with the first batch who collected theirs yesterday and that today, was for the conclusion of the exercise with the presentation to the last batch of residents.

In his remarks at the ceremony, honourable Ganiyu Babatunde Sanni alluded to the fact that the payment of compensation was a product of series of engagements between the government and the community in order to ensure that affected residents were properly enumerated and compensated based on identified parameters of the value of payment varying according to the type of structures affected.

Honourable Ganiyu Babatunde Sanni was full of gratitude to the Lagos State government for the compensation payment which he stated emphasized that half bread is better than none and was a mutually agreed settlement by all parties concerned. He said as the representative of the people, he owe it to them to be present at the ceremony.

The names of the second batch of affected residents were called publicly and the compensation cheques handed over to the beneficiaries by TPL Oladimeji Animashaun.

Some of the beneficiaries spoken to after collecting their cheques, commended and appreciated the Lagos State government for keeping to it’s promise of compensation to cushion their plight and not leave them alone to bear the burden.
