Kwara: Troops destroy terrorist camps, recover weapons

Troops of the 22 Brigade, Sector 1 of Operation Safe South-South (OPSS), have raided suspected terrorist hideouts in Kaiama LGA of Kwara state, destroying camps and recovering arms.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that the operation began around 6am on April 24.

Makama said the troops moved towards Tungan Mariga from their harbour area in Kamenji as the clearance operation commenced.

The report added that the troops advanced to Nuku village, where they discovered and dismantled makeshift camps believed to be used by suspected terrorists.

It noted that six Dane guns were recovered during the exercise.

Makama said the troops later proceeded to Woro village, where the commanding officer addressed personnel and assessed the progress of the operation.

The report added that additional support was deployed in the area, including an armoured personnel carrier fitted with a QJC weapon system, to strengthen operational effectiveness.

Military authorities quoted in the report said clearance operations will continue in identified hideouts to restrict the movement of criminal elements in the vicinity.
