Blue Lagos engages Isan, Oregun riverine communities in Epe, amplifies calls for development interventions

Blue Lagos Initiative, a, community-focused platform committed to promoting inclusive development and improving access to opportunities in Lagos’ riverine and coastal communities, recently carried out a community engagement visit to the Isan and Oregun riverine communities in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The engagement formed part of Blue Lagos’ commitment to listening to underserved populations, understanding their developmental challenges, and amplifying their voices to relevant stakeholders for sustainable action.

During the visit, residents of both communities openly shared pressing concerns affecting their daily lives and socio-economic wellbeing. Key among the requests made by members of the communities were the need for a functional maternity health centre to improve access to healthcare services for women and children, establishment of a local primary school at Oregun and the construction of a safe and functional jetty to enhance transportation, safety, and connectivity.

Speaking during the engagement, Mr Adesanya Saheed Blue Lagos Team Lead reiterated the initiative’s dedication to community-driven advocacy, noting that meaningful development begins with listening to the people and identifying their most urgent needs.

The visit provided an opportunity for direct interaction with community leaders, women, youth, and other residents, fostering dialogue aimed at identifying practical pathways for intervention and collaboration.

Blue Lagos reaffirmed its commitment to continuing engagements across riverine and coastal communities in Lagos State, ensuring that the voices of vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations are heard and connected to the appropriate quarters for attention and action.
