Marwa  gives order of crackdown after mob attacks NDLEA officers

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, has ordered the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for attacking two officers of the agency during an operation in the Federal Capital Territory.

The injured officers, Ayegh Dooyun Zachariah and Shehu Jamil Ibrahim, are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja, after sustaining severe injuries during a mob attack while raiding a suspected drug joint in the Dawaki area of Abuja on May 15, 2026.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, Marwa gave the directive on Monday during a visit to the officers at the hospital, where he sympathised with them and assured them of the agency’s support.

“The agency will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this cowardly attack are arrested and brought to justice.

“An attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go unpunished,” Marwa was quoted as saying.

The NDLEA boss assured the officers that the agency would take full responsibility for their welfare and ensure they receive adequate medical care until they fully recover.

He commended the officers for their bravery, commitment to duty and professionalism during the operation, describing their sacrifices in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking as invaluable.

As part of efforts to motivate the injured officers, Marwa presented them with letters of commendation signed by him, alongside other support packages to aid their recovery.

He also praised the medical personnel of the NDLEA and the National Hospital for their prompt response and treatment of the officers.

Marwa reiterated the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and dismantling drug cartels across the country despite resistance from criminal elements.
