Taiwo distributes learning materials to pupils, students in Ipokia… Promises school uniforms for indigent beneficiaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Dr Emmanuel Oluwatoyin Taiwo, has distributed learning materials to pupils and students in public schools across Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The materials, which included exercise books, school sandals and socks, were distributed to pupils and students from less-privileged homes to ease the burden of returning to school and encourage regular attendance.

Taiwo, a former Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, spoke during visits to the schools. He said the initiative was prompted by reports that some pupils and students were unable to resume the new academic session because their parents could not afford basic learning materials.

He added that the visits revealed that some pupils and students had returned to school in worn-out uniforms.

“I got reports that some of our students could not resume this academic session due to the inability of their parents to provide learning materials for them. I came here today and confirmed that, apart from this, many of the students resumed in tattered school uniforms,” he said.

Taiwo also announced plans to provide new school uniforms for beneficiaries who require them, assuring that the distribution would be completed before the end of the following week.

He said the intervention would be extended to schools in Yewa South Local Government Area the following week.

The initiative was commended by education and community stakeholders who accompanied Taiwo on the school visits.

The Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, described the intervention as timely, saying it would complement the council’s efforts to improve education in the area.

Avoseh disclosed that his administration had renovated and commissioned about 15 primary and secondary schools since assuming office.

He stressed the need for sustained interventions in the education sector, particularly initiatives aimed at improving the learning environment and supporting pupils from vulnerable households.

Also speaking, a former Chairman of Ipokia Local Government and Commissioner with the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon. Isiaka Aderonmu, said the gesture would boost the morale of the beneficiaries and encourage them to take their studies more seriously.

The schools visited included Ipokia Local Government Primary School; Maun Community Commercial Secondary School, Ipokia; Community High School, Tube; Methodist Primary School, Agada; Methodist Primary School, Iganmi; and Ogbe Community High School, Ajegunle Mede.

Members of Taiwo’s entourage included the APC Chairman in Ipokia, Hon. Wale Agbetokun Onikoyi; the Vice Chairman of Ipokia Local Government, Hon. Grace Okewole; a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly; and former council chairmen, Hon. Abiodun Akovoyon, Hon. Dosu Amos, Hon. Adeniyi Hosu and Hon. Kabir Abolurin, among others.
