Man arrested for writing promotion exam for his father

A 33-year-old man, Mansur Musa, has been arrested for allegedly writing a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promotion examination on behalf of Musa Mohammed, his father and a staff member of the FCT Fire Service.

Lere Olayinka, media aide to Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday accompanied by a video of the incident.

Olayinka said Musa was caught by security personnel deployed to the examination venue at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) premises in Abuja.

“Today, being the third day of the promotion examination being conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission, 33-year-old Monsuru Musa was caught writing examination for his father, Musa Mohammed, who works in the FCT Fire Service,” Olayinka said.

According to him, Musa initially told the security personnel that his father was ill when he was questioned about his presence at the examination.

He said further checks, however, revealed that Musa’s father was also within the premises.

In the video, Musa admitted that his father had directed him to sit for the promotion examination on his behalf.

When asked about his father’s age, Musa said he was between 67 and 68 years old.

However, his father gave a different account, saying he would turn 60 in February 2027.

The father also told the security personnel that he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.

Olayinka said the father admitted that he had sent his son to take the examination on his behalf and apologised for his action.

He said both men made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before they were handed over to the police for further investigation.

The incident occurred during the ongoing promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission for civil servants in the territory.

The examination is being conducted as part of the commission’s promotion exercise for eligible staff.
