AbdulRazaq backs Wike’s inclusion in presidential campaign council, says Tinubu will get APC-PDP votes in Kwara

AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, says the inclusion of Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council has strengthened President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the state in the 2027 elections.

AbdulRazaq spoke on Saturday during a visit by Abdulaziz Yari, director-general of the APC presidential campaign council, to the Kwara state government house.

The governor said before the latest changes to the campaign council, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to which Wike belongs, had 30 percent voting strength in Kwara, while the APC controlled the remaining 70 percent.

He said Wike’s inauguration into the campaign council and his declaration of support for Tinubu’s re-election bid would make Kwara one of the easiest states to win for the president in 2027.

“APC is 70% in Kwara state, while PDP is 30%. Since the 2019 and 2023 elections till now, nothing has changed other than the PDP has continued to be weakened,” AbdulRazaq said.

“Now that the national leader of the PDP has been inaugurated as a member of the APC presidential campaign council and declared that his party will vote for President Bola Tinubu, it means that both the 30% of the PDP and the 70% of the APC will vote for the president.

“It means this will be one of the two easiest states because the two main parties are voting for President Tinubu.”

The governor’s remark comes amid a political rift between him and Wike, who has also clashed with other APC governors, including Hope Uzodimma of Imo, over their opposition to his Rainbow coalition.

In a media engagement on September 16, Wike accused the Kwara governor of blaming him for virtually every political disagreement in the state.

“The governor of Kwara, so unfortunate. Anytime he sees a snake, it’s Wike. Any day he doesn’t eat, it’s Wike,” he said.

“I never see people who will give time to gossip more than the work they have been given. He has three serving senators, he changed all of them. He has house reps, he changed all of them.”

Wike’s outburst followed a September 15 statement by the progressive governors’ forum, chaired by Uzodimma, in which APC governors said they would not participate in or support any political arrangement capable of weakening the party and undermining Tinubu’s re-election bid.

In response, Wike challenged the governors’ position and questioned their political capacity, accusing them of being politically lazy.
