Gov. Dauda Lawal Flags Off Strategic Road Projects Linking Four LGAs
Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, has flagged off the construction and reconstruction of strategic road projects linking four local government areas in the state, in a move aimed at improving connectivity, economic activities and access to essential services.
The projects cover Gusau, Bungudu, Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the projects include the Tashar Abu–Kekun Waje–Bingi Road in Bungudu LGA, the Kwatarkwashi–Mada Road and the Gusau–Jauri–Dogon Kade–Dan Isah Nasarawa Mailayi–Nasarawa Godel Road.
The Tashar Abu–Kekun Waje–Bingi Road project will involve road reconstruction, earthworks, pavement construction, drainage and erosion control. It is expected to be completed within 18 months.
The Kwatarkwashi–Mada Road reconstruction has been awarded to Zhongcheng Construction Nigeria Limited, with a completion period of 12 months.
The third project, covering approximately 53 kilometres from Gusau through Jauri, Dogon Kade and Nasarawa Mailayi to Nasarawa Godel, has been awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited for completion within 18 months.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the final phase of the Gusau–Nasarawa Godel Road, Lawal described the projects as significant milestones in his administration’s Rescue Mission, aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, restoring hope, improving security and expanding economic opportunities.
He said good road infrastructure was essential for economic growth, security, social development and the overall well-being of residents.
The governor said the 53-kilometre road project would cover four local government areas, with 5 kilometres allocated to Gusau, 12 kilometres to Bungudu, nine kilometres to Kaura Namoda and 27 kilometres to Birnin Magaji.
According to him, the scope of work includes earthworks, culverts of different sizes, reinforced concrete-lined drains, erosion control and other associated construction works.
The project will also feature three bridges comprising three-span, two-span and 10-span structures to ensure safer and more reliable movement along the corridor.
Lawal said the completed roads would connect communities to their respective local government headquarters and Gusau, the state capital, thereby easing transportation, reducing travel costs and journey times, and improving access to markets and essential services.
He added that improved connectivity would also enable farmers to transport their agricultural produce more easily to markets.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development as part of efforts to improve living conditions and strengthen economic activities across Zamfara State.
