ADC faction opens membership portal

The African Democratic Congress faction loyal to the party’s governorship candidate in Gombe State, Nafiu Bala, during the 2023 elections, has launched a membership portal.

The faction also disassociated itself from a factional group claiming to operate under the name Coalition of African Democratic Congress.

In a statement on Friday, Bala’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr Christopher Okechukwu, dismissed reports of a meeting purportedly held on Thursday by the self-styled coalition.

Okechukwu said, “We wish to emphasise that there is no recognised association or coalition within the African Democratic Congress bearing the name ‘Coalition of African Democratic Congress.’ The only legitimate entity recognised under the Electoral Act is the African Democratic Congress as a registered political party.

“In light of this clarification, we are excited to announce the imminent launch of our membership registration portal. Our ICT team is actively engaged in upgrading the portal and updating the system to enhance the party’s online platform, ensuring seamless functionality.

“And also to integrate new features to streamline the membership registration process. The upgraded portal will enable efficient onboarding of new members, ensuring a smooth and secure registration experience.

“As part of our efforts to ensure the authenticity and integrity of our party membership, we are introducing enhanced security features for the new membership cards. The new membership cards, slated for issuance during the revalidation and registration exercise in November 2025, will boast the following security features.”

Recall that former Senate President, David Mark, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, and other key figures were in Abuja on Thursday for a high-level African Democratic Congress coalition meeting.

Also present were ex-Minister of Digital Economy Isa Pantami, former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed, and ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who gathered alongside former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku later took to his official X handle to stress the significance of the meeting, framing it as part of a national resistance against powers holding back development.

He wrote, “I am currently at the stakeholders meeting of the Coalition African Democratic Congress in Abuja. It’s a meeting of the Nigerian people against the oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land.”
