Alliance with Aregbesola won’t save Adeleke from defeat – Abioka Ogundokun
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Chief Abiola Ogundokun, has said an alliance between Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party and ex-Govermor Rauf Aregbesola of the African Democratic Congress will not stop the APC from winning next year’s governorship election in Osun State.
In a statement obtained on Sunday, Ogundokun described any possible consultation between the PDP and ADC as “jittery maneuvers disguised as strategic alliances,” insisting that the APC remains the state’s most disciplined and stable political structure.
His comment comes on the back of a rumoured meeting between Adeleke and Aregbesola to forge alliance ahead of next year’s election. There were claims Adeleke was accompanied by his billionaire brother, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, to a meeting with Aregbesola.
However, in a statement last week, Adeleke’s media aide dismissed the APC’s claims as false.
“The report is false, and the entire assertions by the opposition are mere fabrication and fake news,” Rasheed said.
“Governor Adeleke is not negotiating with former Governor Aregbesola about ADC, and the governor is not joining ADC.
However, in his statement on Sunday, Ogundokun further mocked Adeleke, saying,“When a sitting governor starts begging to align with other political parties, it shows that the end of the road is near. It is a clear sign of dwindling popularity, desperation, and fear of imminent defeat.”
“It is laughable that the Osun PDP, which once boasted of being the party to beat, is now running helter-skelter, pleading for partnerships merely to stay afloat ahead of 2026.”
Ogundokun maintained that genuine political realignments are founded on respect for structure, loyalty, and party discipline—qualities he said are lacking in both the PDP and the ADC in Osun.
“The PDP is being swept into political oblivion by the hurricane of defections besetting it, while the ADC could not find its footing before plunging into crisis,” he said, adding, “If each of them stood firmly on one leg, perhaps together they could have posed a semblance of competition. But as things stand, both will be crushed by the APC in the ballot box come 2026.”
Last week, Adeleke’s spokesman said his principal would not join the ADC or align with any interest within the party ahead of the 2026 election in the state.
