Anthony Joshua Recuperating After Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Accident

The Governments of Ogun and Lagos States have provided an update on the road traffic accident that occurred earlier today along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, involving Anthony Joshua and three other passengers.

Tragically, two passengers lost their lives in the accident. They have been identified as:
Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36) – Nigerian/British
Gami Sina (36) – British

The British High Commission has been formally notified of the incident. Officials of the Mission are actively monitoring the situation and remain in direct communication with the hospital and relevant authorities. The Deputy High Commissioner paid a fact-finding visit to the hospital and held constructive engagements with Anthony Joshua and government officials.

The families of the deceased have been contacted through the British High Commission.

The Governors personally took charge of the situation and remained at the hospital for over seven hours. Various stakeholders, including the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, and the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Mr. Bukola Olopade, were also present to offer professional support.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the -Armed Forces, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has been fully briefed. Mr. President spoke with Anthony Joshua and other family members on phone, expressing his condolences and sympathies.

The Governors have assured the public that every effort is being made to provide the best possible medical care for the boxing champion.

Arrangements are also in advanced stages to repatriate the bodies of the deceased to the United Kingdom, in line with the wishes of their respective families.

The Governments of Ogun and Lagos States will continue to provide updates on the wellbeing of Anthony Joshua and others involved in the incident as necessary.
