Buhari, Akume, others affected as Wike revokes 762 plots in FCT
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked lands allocated to prominent Nigerians, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume.
This decision, which affected 759 individuals and organisations in Maitama II District of Abuja, was announced in a publication by the FCT Administration.
The revocations were carried out due to the non-payment of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees.
In a separate publication, the minister also issued a stern warning to additional landholders, including the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda, and former Senate Presidents Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute, as well as the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Tahir Monguno, among 610 others. They have been given a two-week deadline to settle outstanding fees owed to the FCT Administration or face similar revocations.
The action came months after Minister Wike’s repeated calls urging FCT residents, particularly those in affluent areas of the nation’s capital city, to pay their outstanding dues or risk forfeiting their land allocations.
Speaking on the matter, Special Adviser to the FCT Minister on Media, Lere Olayinka, emphasised the importance of compliance with FCT regulations, noting that the government had exercised patience before taking the step.
