The Ekiti State Government on Wednesday condemned the recent wave of kidnappings in the state and urged local government chairmen to take responsibility for ensuring the effective security of lives and property in their areas.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd), announced that the government had increased security efforts to safeguard innocent residents.

Ogundana, who also serves as the Chairman of the State Security and Intelligence Committee, made this statement during the committee’s third quarterly meeting.

He emphasised the importance of council chairmen working closely with the government to put an end to insecurity in the state.

He added that the state government would review its security framework to address the rising challenges.

Kidnappings have resurfaced in the state recently, including an attack by gunmen on 1st September along the Emure-Eporo Road, where a man was killed and three women were abducted.

Speaking at the meeting, Ogundana described the kidnapping incident as unfortunate and unacceptable.

He said, “You have rightly noted that we have been enjoying relative peace in the state, but earlier this week, we received some troubling news. That is why Governor Biodun Oyebanji directed that this meeting be held.

“We will also convene a meeting with security agencies and other stakeholders to review our security strategies so that we can tackle these challenges more effectively.”
