Former Oyo governor Olunloyo passes on at 90
Former governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, is dead.
A statement by his family on Sunday, said Olunloyo died a few days before his 90th birthday.
The statement titled ‘Victor Olunloyo goes home’ was signed Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, it was with a heavy heart but in gratitude to the Almighty that the family announced the demise of the elder statesman.
Olunloyo was a renowned mathematician, engineer and technocrat who was a prominent figure in the politics of the Second Republic.
He was also the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife. Dr. Olunloyo was first Rector, Ibadan polytechnic and first Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic among other notable appointments.
“His long record of service to the nation and humanity is a source of pride to his family and associates even as we come to grip with this devastating event.
“The Olunloyo family will appreciate the understanding of the press and the public as they commence efforts to give him a befitting burial.
“Even from everlasting to everlasting, He is God,” the statement said.
In April 2024, a rumour of his death surfaced in the media which he quickly debunked, saying “I’m still here, not yet gone,” .
The respected politician had suffered some age related ailments before giving up the ghost early hours of 6 April 2025. He was born on April 14, 1935.
