Gov. Aiyedatiwa’s Unwavering Resolve In Ushering in a New Era of Strengthened, Autonomous Justice in Ondo State – The Triumph of Dialogue, Dignity, and Dedication

It gladdens my heart to note that the justice sector in Ondo State has awakened to a new and radiant beginning, a chapter reborn through dialogue, maturity, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

After weeks of suspended operations, where the hallowed halls of our Magistrate and Customary Courts stood silent in pursuit of rightful dignity, the Magistrates, Presidents of Grade ‘A’ Customary Courts, Legal Research Officers, and the valiant members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) have graciously suspended their industrial action.

This decision, forged in the crucible of constructive engagement led by dedicated government representatives, marks not merely the end of a dispute, but the triumph of reason over rancour, and collaboration over conflict.

His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, FCA, a visionary leader of calm yet decisive temperament, whose stewardship has been hailed as exemplary in defending the rule of law, driving proactive legal reforms, and demonstrating uncommon accessibility to stakeholders, has, from the very outset, affirmed his premium regards to the rule of law and steadfast belief in the sacred principle of judicial autonomy, a constitutional imperative that demands not opposition, but thoughtful, sustainable, and prudent implementation.

His calm but resolute leadership style, strategic foresight, and insistence on performance and fiscal discipline have illuminated the path forward, proving once again why his administration is celebrated for its purposeful progress in justice administration and beyond.

What was sought was clarity on modalities, a harmonious path that safeguards fiscal prudence while honouring the independence of the third arm of government. Today, that path has been brilliantly illuminated through mutual understanding, shared resolve, and the Governor’s unwavering dedication to making justice in Ondo State better, more efficient, and truly empowering for all.

To my noble Lord, Hon. Justice Ayedun Olusegun Odusola, the Chief Judge, the Justices, the Magistrates, and all judiciary staffers who stood firm in their pursuit of justice, your patience, understanding, professionalism, and patriotism have been exemplary. You have reminded us that true strength lies not in prolonged strife, but in principled negotiation that restores harmony without compromising core values.

To the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), whose wise counsel bridged divides and fostered trust: your role as guardians of the bar and conscience of the bench has once again proven indispensable. And to every stakeholder who chose the table of dialogue over the impasse of division, thank you.

We have collectively ensured that the wheels of justice in Ondo State turn once more, swiftly and surely, delivering equity to the humblest citizen and upholding the majesty of the law.

This is more than the resumption of court sittings, it is a testament to democratic maturity, a demonstration that peaceful resolution is possible even amid earnest differences.

Judicial autonomy, I must say, is not a gift, but a right to be realised through partnership and prudence. In Ondo State, under the inspiring and transformative leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, we have chosen, and are steadfastly walking, the nobler road toward a truly independent and empowered judiciary.

As courts reopen and justice flows anew, this moment shall serve as a reminder that when leaders listen with resolve, workers persevere with dignity, and institutions collaborate with purpose, no challenge is insurmountable. A stronger, more autonomous, and truly independent judiciary awaits, a judiciary ready to serve, protect, and elevate our beloved Sunshine State.

The storm has passed. A brighter era for justice dawns, because visionary resolve met reality, and justice prevailed.

May the scales remain balanced, the gavel ring true, and the spirit of this accord endure forever.
