I’d be happy to serve as Obi’s running mate –Kwakwanso

Ahead of the 2027 elections, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano, says he is willing to be the running mate to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, Kwankwaso said he would be glad to work with the former governor of Anambra if chosen by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kwankwaso said he and Obi have already agreed to jointly confront Nigeria’s security challenges to restore peace and stability across the country.

“Both of us, my humble self and Peter Obi, have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country,” he said.

When asked if he would accept the position of vice-presidential candidate if Obi emerges as the presidential candidate of the party, Kwankwaso responded in the affirmative.

“If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the south under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him,” he said.

“Personally, I cannot remember any better combination, no matter how much time is given to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country.”

Earlier this month, both Kwankwaso and Obi joined the NDC after stints in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
