A civil society organization, Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) has condemned in the strongest terms the gruesome murder of CSP Kazeem Abonde of the Lagos State police command, injuring of others and the destruction of a police patrol van by criminals while on lawful duty at Ajao estate on Thursday 23rd of September 2021.

The group in a press release issued in Lagos today Saturday 25th of September 2021, “Stated that it is deeply saddened and horrified by the ugly development which is an assault on the sovereignty of the Nigeria state by criminals who must be apprehended and brought to justice as quickly as possible”.

In the press statement, CSER, asserted that it is demanding justice on the matter because under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, no one, whether civilians or security agencies have a right to extra judicially terminate human life whether of security agents or civilians because all lives matter.

The executive director of the centre Nelson Ekujumi, also expressed his organization’s disappointment with the unprofessional conduct of the men and officers of the joint operations enforcement team for abandoning it’s commander to be killed horrendously in the discharge of lawful duty, which smacks of incompetence, dereliction of duty and culpability for murder.

According to (CSER), “As we grieve over this unfortunate assault on the Nigeria state which this killing and attack symbolizes, we call on the police authorities to ensure that it’s investigation of this act of criminality extends to all the officers and men who participated in the joint operation”.

The Centre for Social and Economic Rights (CSER) used the occasion of it’s press release to condole with the immediate and extended family of the deceased, the Nigeria police force and the Federal Republic of Nigeria over the unfortunate assault on its sovereignty which is unacceptable and condemnable, just as it prayed God to grant late CSP Kazeem Abonde eternal rest.

Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

Nelson Ekujumi,
Executive Director.
