Middle Belt Forum raises alarm over threatened attacks in Taraba, Southern Kaduna

The attention of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has been drawn to trending security alerts on social media indicating impending attacks allegedly by Fulani ethnic militia in parts of Taraba State and Southern Kaduna, urging residents to remain alert, vigilant, and united in the face of credible threats.

A statement issued by the forum’s spokesman, Luka Binniyat, and made available to DAILY POST on Monday, said: “While the MBF does not intend to escalate this warning into undue panic or anxiety, events in the past 24 hours in some parts of the Middle Belt have made it necessary to urge all residents of the Middle Belt to remain alert, vigilant, and united in the face of credible threats.”

Binniyat further explained that available intelligence, according to reports, indicated that primary target areas in Taraba include the Chachangi–Yelwa axis and the Wukari–Takum Road corridor, with a possible attack window around Monday, March 23, 2026.

In Southern Kaduna, he said that Kajuru, Chikun, and Kachia LGAs remain vulnerable due to persistent attacks, invasions, and mass kidnappings of rural dwellers, adding that there appear to be further plans to destabilise more rural communities, going by the security alert.

According to him, “However, these identified locations may not be the only targets, as such threats could also serve as diversionary tactics.”

In view of this, the MBF called on all vulnerable communities across the Middle Belt, including rural areas in Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Adamawa, and Gombe states, to heighten vigilance.

Binniyat further advised residents to watch out for unusual movements or gatherings of unfamiliar persons around communities, the sighting of armed herders or suspicious individuals near settlements, and increased motorcycle movements, especially in remote or connecting routes.

The spokesman also advised that any sudden influx of cattle into deserted or contested farmlands, as well as the establishment of suspicious camps in nearby bushes or forests, should be reported to security authorities for immediate and prompt action to avert any unforeseen circumstances.

The forum explained that people should avoid isolated farming in distant or vulnerable areas at this time, travel in groups, particularly in high-risk locations, and activate community vigilance and early warning systems.

It further advised residents to report suspicious activities promptly to security agencies and local leaders, prepare safe evacuation plans for women, children, and the elderly, and strengthen coordination with neighbouring communities for rapid response.

The MBF, therefore, called on security agencies to take the threats seriously and ensure sustained surveillance and proactive deployment across the identified and surrounding areas.
