Nigerians in diaspora laud Tinubu

Some Nigerians living in the United Kingdom have commended the President Bola Tinubu administration for the ongoing reforms taking place in the public procurement sector of the country.

The Nigerian diaspora, under the auspices of the Nigeria Enterprise Community in the United Kingdom, described the development as transformative and beneficial to both local and diaspora businesses.

The President of the community, Ms Christana Ayodele, stated this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Friday.

According to the statement, the reforms were imperative as it would encourage international investors to do business with the country.

The statement read, “As members of the Nigerian diaspora actively engaged in enterprise and investment, we have observed significant improvements in transparency, accessibility, and competitiveness within Nigeria’s procurement system.

“We note with satisfaction that Nigeria’s procurement sector is now ranked among the top 15 globally. While this achievement may not yet be widely appreciated by all, it represents a major milestone that enhances investor confidence, attracts foreign participation, and encourages greater involvement of Nigerians in the diaspora in national development.

“The ongoing reforms have made it increasingly possible for Nigerians abroad to participate in public procurement processes without reliance on personal connections. The system is gradually becoming more open, merit-driven, and aligned with international best practices.

It also hailed the President for his commitment to institutional reforms, particularly “his deliberate effort in appointing competent individuals to lead key agencies and empowering them to deliver results.”

“The progress being recorded demonstrates that these reforms are not merely policy pronouncements, but practical steps yielding measurable outcomes,” the statement added.

The group said it would continue to support initiatives that will promote transparency, accountability, and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.

It also congratulated the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, for the recent award as the Public Sector Reformer of the Year by Triangle International Magazine, saying it was a well-deserved international recognition bestowed on a Nigerian.
