Ondo ex-lawmakers endorse APC N’Assembly candidates

The Forum of Former Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly has endorsed the All Progressives Congress National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election, urging party members to unite behind the party ahead of the polls.

The forum also commended President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for what it described as their leadership in strengthening the party.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued after the forum’s meeting in Akure on Friday and jointly signed by its Chairman, Olugbenga Araoyinbo, and Public Relations Officer, Tayo Abidakun.

The ex-lawmakers praised Tinubu for his leadership and commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We express our profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his exemplary leadership, steadfast commitment to democratic ideals, and unwavering dedication to repositioning Nigeria through the Renewed Hope Agenda. His leadership continues to strengthen the APC as the foremost progressive political platform in Nigeria,” the statement read.

The forum also commended the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, members of the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee for what it described as transparent leadership during the party’s primary elections.

According to the group, the conduct of the primaries reinforced confidence in the APC’s internal democratic process.

It equally lauded Tunji-Ojo, describing him as a key figure in promoting the growth and unity of the party in Ondo State.

“The Forum also pays glowing tribute to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his exemplary leadership, outstanding performance in public service, and unwavering commitment to the growth and unity of the APC in Ondo State,” it stated.

The former lawmakers congratulated all the party’s National Assembly candidates, saying their emergence reflected the confidence reposed in them by delegates and stakeholders.

“Our endorsement of the APC National Assembly candidates is total, unequivocal and collective. It is borne out of our firm conviction that the success of every APC candidate is fundamental to consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda and ensuring effective legislative support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement added.

The forum pledged to mobilise its members and grassroots structures across the state’s 18 local government areas to ensure the victory of all APC candidates.

It also condemned what it described as state-sponsored protests against the party’s National Assembly candidates’ list, expressing support for the decision of the APC National Working Committee.

The group called on all aspirants and stakeholders to put the primary election behind them and work together for the party’s success.

“We particularly call on all victorious candidates to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship to fellow aspirants, their supporters and every segment of our great party. Lasting political success is built not on exclusion but on inclusion, consultation, mutual respect and shared purpose,” the statement said.

The forum urged APC members, youths, women and supporters across Ondo State to remain united ahead of the 2027 general election, saying the collective goal should be the re-election of President Tinubu and the victory of all APC National Assembly candidates in the state.
