The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has joined calls for the imposition of a state of emergency in the state, citing a total collapse of governance at the local government level.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has committed multiple infractions, including conducting local government elections without vacancies, dismissing 1,500 teachers, thousands of health workers, and O’YES cadets employed by his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola.

The party further alleged that Adeleke has been running the government by proxy, with his siblings taking control of state affairs, leading to a breakdown in governance.

It also accused the governor of frustrating the implementation of a Court of Appeal judgment reinstating APC-backed local government chairmen and councillors.

The statement read in part: “Where else is a government being run by proxy as it is currently happening in Osun State, where the governor’s siblings have taken undue advantage of his challenges to take over governance? Right-thinking members of society are alarmed by this situation.

“Those attacking the National Secretary of our party for calling for a state of emergency should explain why it is not an impeachable offense for a governor to cripple the third tier of government for his selfish motives. Governor Adeleke has turned his Ede residence into a meeting ground for council officials resisting the court’s decision reinstating the APC-led councils.”

The APC claimed that local government workers have abandoned their duties due to directives from the state government, leading to a breakdown in essential services. It highlighted the struggles of students, job seekers, and residents who require local government documentation, stating that the government’s actions have stifled operations at the local level.

The party reiterated its demand for decisive action to address the alleged governance crisis in Osun State.
