Oyebanji flags off construction of 1,000 housing units
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanj, has flagged off the construction of 1,000 units of affordable housing units under the Ado Ekiti New Town Project.
Oyebanji, who spoke on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony at the Ado Ekiti New Town, along Ekiti State University Road, said his administration would prioritise the provision of a housing scheme to relieve the populace of the stress of building houses by themselves.
The governor also disclosed that 1,000 units of the houses would be delivered within the next 12 months.
Oyebanji decried the housing deficit in the state, stressing the need for the government to adopt a housing model that would harness limited space for the delivery of safe homes through public/private partnerships.
He assured that the government would embrace the global housing policy that aimed at making people homeowners through an inclusive and convenient financing system based on their incomes.
The governor said the policy, along with outright purchase for those who could afford it, would support a sustainable system that would make houses consistently available to the populace.
While affirming publicly that he would subscribe to one unit of the housing scheme, Oyebanji said his administration would attempt to explore innovation and partnership with more private investors to attract more housing projects to the state.
He added that the government was committed to driving development in all sectors of the economy, working with private sector players, institutions and development partners.
The governor thanked the management of Citec International Estates Limited, led by its Managing Director, Dr Oludare Bello, for the agreement to invest in the state.
He said his administration would set standards to ensure that all categories of residents had almost equal opportunities to own a property.
