The recent visit by Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 General Elections, to Bauchi State was conducted without prior consultation with the Obidient Movement in the area, causing outrage among Obidients.
Elder Abel Musa, Chairman of the ObiDatti Coalition in Bauchi State, disclosed this on Saturday while reacting to the situation during an interaction with journalists.
According to him, “This oversight, undermines the collective efforts made by the Movement before, during, and after the 2023 elections, as well as our ongoing initiatives aimed at improving Nigeria.”
Musa added that, “Such actions risk discouraging a Movement that has emerged in response to critical issues, including maladministration, insecurity, infrastructure deficits, and the rising cost of living.”
The Monitoring & Evaluation, CPO Bauchi State, added that, “The claim that His Excellency Obi’s visit was purely private is misleading; he is not an ordinary citizen, even when he is in a private capacity.”
“The visit was not private, as it was broadcast live on social media and covered by mainstream media, including a question-and-answer session,” he stressed.
He also stated that, “Sadly, this situation arose shortly after a very successful North East Obidient Movement Summit, where dedicated members from Bauchi State actively participated in both planning and execution.”
Musa expressed that, “Feeling sidelined during this visit is unfortunate and provocative for our members.”
According to him, “I understand and appreciate the frustration and anger expressed by the Obidient Movement members regarding this matter.”
“I commend the maturity of all coordinators and stakeholders for their efforts to calm any frayed nerves and to reinforce our belief that a New Nigeria is possible,” he added.
He then stressed that, “I appeal to all Obidients to remain focused and consistent in upholding our values and enduring sacrifices.”
He stressed that, “I respectfully urge His Excellency Peter Obi and his team to reconsider their approach and involve the Obidient Movement in future activities across various states.”
The Coalition Chairperson concluded saying, “This collaboration is vital to rekindling the enthusiasm that seems to be waning due to recent actions and inactions.”
Recall that Peter Obi was in Bauchi few days ago to have a behind closed doors discussions with Bauchi State Governor and Chairperson of PDP Governors Forum, Sen Bala Mohammed after which the two political leaders told the world that they are seeking mutual grounds on how to navigate the 2027 General elections.
