PSC opens portal for recruitment of 50,000 constables

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has opened the process for recruiting 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The process follows a directive by President Bola Tinubu to strengthen community policing and enhance internal security.

In a statement on Thursday, Torty Kalu, PSC’s head of protocol and public affairs, said the recruitment portal will open on December 15, 2025, and close on January 25, 2026.

Kalu described the approval as a major step toward increasing police manpower, adding that the exercise will be “transparent, merit-based and credible”.

He noted that applications are free and warned prospective candidates to be cautious of fraudsters, noting that no payment is required at any point.

The PSC outlined the requirements for both categories of applicants. General duty candidates must possess GCE ordinary level, SSCE/NECO or an equivalent certificate with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.

Applicants for the specialists cadre must possess a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, with at least three years of experience and relevant trade tests.

Eligible applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, aged 18–25 years for general duty and 18–28 years for specialists, and be medically, physically and psychologically fit. Height requirements apply to general duty applicants only.

Kalu said detailed guidelines and requirements will be available on the recruitment portal — www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng — when it becomes active on December 15, as well as on the official websites and social media accounts of the PSC and NPF.

The commission urged qualified Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity to serve the nation.
