The Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has apologised to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for uncomplimentary remarks he made against the monarch in the past.
Igboho, who tendered the apology on Saturday during a visit to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, admitted that it was wrong of him to have made such comments in the Ooni’s absence and explained that he came personally to seek forgiveness.
He said, “I thank God for my life and for this day. I never knew Kabiyesi would honour me in this manner. I have offended the Ooni in the past, and I am here to seek his forgiveness. Whoever I may have offended should please forgive me.”
The Yoruba agitator said he regretted his past disrespectful actions towards the Ooni more when he received huge support from the monarch towards his freedom from prison in the Benin Republic and to date.
“When all was set for my release from prison in the Republic of Benin, the monarchs whom I considered to be close to me refused to sign for my freedom; it was the Ooni that led the signatories to ensure that I was freed and also saved.”
Responding, Obama Ogunwusi explained that he refused to openly declare his support for the Yoruba Nation agitator because he sensed “trouble” in Igboho’s approach.
The monarch thanked God for preserving the life of Sunday Igboho, who he said could have suffered huge tragic loss if all planned against him by his tormentors had come to pass.
“If we all look back at what happened, you will agree with me that I was right when I said things must be done systematically with proper planning. Although most of you, including Sunday Igboho, rained abuses on me, I am sure it happened that way because you did not see what I saw then,” the Ooni said.
The monarch assured Igboho that efforts would be made to address his demands, promising that the issues of his wanted status and frozen accounts would be resolved.
