With few months away to the ruling on the popular Paris arbitration which witnessed two ex presidents, three former ministers, and top tier lawyers representing Nigeria and Sunrise Power, there seems to be unrest in the Nigerian camp.
Those privy to the arbitration reveal that it wasn’t a smooth sail for witness representing Nigeria.
Different media segments reveal how the cross examination of these key witness established dominant facts which override sentimental arguments.
The turn of events at the mambilla arbitration in Paris was a clear capsulation of Theodore Roosevelt inference,
“No man is above the law, and no man is below it.” Ex President Obasanjo was grilled on his tolerance for the rule of law and strict adherence. Obasanjo was grilled on how under his watch five governors were impeached, four party chairmen and four senate presidents were removed.
He was also grilled on corruption and his ownership of Bells schools, and a world class farm.
Asked if he were familiar the timing Bureau of Public Procurement Act was enacted.
The former president was reminded that the BPP act only became effective in 2007.
It happens that former Minister Dr. Agunloye acted in fair capacity of section 5 (A) of the constitution, and righty so in 2003 when the BPP procurement act wasn’t in existence.
The cross examination went as far as questioning why after four democratic presidents, it is only now that Federal Government is doubting the foundation of Sunrise’s legitimacy to the mambilla hydro contract. Questions about FGN’s honesty were further highlighted.
The foundation of Sunrise’s legitimacy of the mambilla hydro contract had been the focal point for the Nigerian legal team and proponents. With this now being dispelled, there is unrest in the Nigerian camp.
Some Elder-statesmen, Legal luminaries & close watchers are in doubt, if President Tinubu is given the full picture and facts about what transpired at the arbitration.
Investigation however reveal that moves to get Sunrise power to consider amicably settlement has been successful. Would President Tinubu consider the proposal is yet to be known.
