Tunji Olowolafe awards 83 EKSU first-class graduates N500,000 each

Tunji Olowolafe, the chancellor of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), has awarded N500,000 each to the 83 first-class graduates of the institution.

Speaking at the 30th convocation ceremony of the institution, Olowolafe said his foundation provided the financial reward.

“To demonstrate that excellence deserves tangible reward, at last year’s convocation, the Foundation awarded a cash prize of Five Hundred Thousand Naira to each of the 200 EKSU graduates who finished with First Class Honours,” he said in a statement.

“This is not charity — it is a statement of values. The message is simple and unambiguous: excellence at Ekiti State University will be seen, celebrated, and rewarded.

“This year, those First-Class graduates – about 83 of them, and I suspect by now they may have been paid five hundred thousand each – will be invited to join the TOF First Class Graduate Club. Their graduation is not the end of our relationship — it is definitely the beginning.”

He added that this year’s first-class graduates would be invited to join the Tunji Olowolafe First Class Graduate Club.

Earlier, Olowolafe unveiled several major educational interventions for the school, including Project Digi-Teach EKSU — a programme aimed at achieving 100% digital proficiency among all 650 lecturers.

He also announced a landmark partnership with London-based careers platform Springpod. The partnership will offer EKSU students free virtual work experience with firms like Amazon, Barclays, Deloitte, and Rolls-Royce.

Biodun Oyebanji, the state governor, attended the ceremony alongside top government officials, traditional rulers, and diplomatic missions.
