Umahi: Obi will be alive to contest and lose 2027 presidential poll

David Umahi, minister of works, has dismissed Peter Obi’s claim that there are threats to his life, saying nobody wants the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate dead.

Umahi said Obi would be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election and lose again.

According to ThisDay, the minister spoke on Friday while inspecting federal road projects in Ebonyi state.

On Wednesday, Obi alleged that he had received threats over his criticism of the federal government and expressed concern about the country’s political climate.

‘NOBODY WANTS OBI DEAD’

Umahi described Obi’s claim as a sign of frustration, insisting that no one is interested in harming him.

“Nobody wants Obi dead; it’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again,” he said.

The minister said Obi’s concern stemmed from the belief that the south-east remains his political stronghold following the 2023 election.

“What he is afraid of is because he said south-east is his catchment area because of the last election, which I call accident of history,” Umahi said.

The ex-Ebonyi governor stated that President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure projects and appointments in the south-east have changed the region’s political outlook.

“We have come with visible development in the zone, and our people have now agreed with us that we are better off with President Tinubu to complete the good works he is doing for us than playing Artificial Intelligence (AI) kind of politics,” he said.

The minister also reiterated his readiness to debate Obi on the performance of the Tinubu administration and the benefits of what he described as the federal government’s inclusive approach to the south-east.
