Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno state, says it is time for political power to go to southern Nigeria.

Shettima stated this on Friday at the public presentation of Njidda Gadzama’s book, “Standing for the Truth with Courage”.

Gadzama is the chairman, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) research and development standing committee.

The former governor said after power has resided in the north for eight years, it is only just for it to be rotated to the south.

He further said the hope of the country rests on the mindset of its people, adding that Nigeria’s problems are neither religion nor ethnicity.

“I believe in equity, justice and fairness. After power has resided in the north for eight years, there is need for a power shift in the south,” Shettima said.

He commended Gazdama for propagating the culture of the people of Margi in his book.

According to him, the book will serve as a learning ground for people across different cultures.

“We are living in the 21st century where our culture is beginning to face extinction,” he said.

“A lot of Margi sons and daughters are not familiar with their mother tongue — a situation not too good for our existence. This book is therefore not a surprise in bring back our culture.”
