The National Councillors Forum of Nigeria (NCFN) has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Evoh Nwikegwu, president of NCFN, described the restoration of local government autonomy as a landmark achievement that has transformed grassroots governance.
Nwikegwu said the forum has a nationwide network of 8,809 councillors across all 774 LGAs and coverage of 176,836 polling units.
He described Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda as “now a living reality in rural communities across the federation”, noting that councillors, as the tier of government closest to the people, have witnessed the direct impact of the president’s reforms.
The NCFN president singled out the restoration of local government autonomy as the administration’s “crowning achievement” and a “game changer” for funding, accountability, and development at the grassroots level.
“This move, combined with improved rural infrastructure and strategic reforms in agriculture, has laid a solid foundation for national prosperity,” he added.
He praised President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen national security through the modernisation of the armed forces and better integration of intelligence agencies.
Nwikegwu urged ward leaders and grassroots coordinators to take the message of the administration to every household in the country.
He maintained that the president has shown the “necessary courage and competence” to deserve a second term to consolidate his reforms.
Others who spoke on behalf of the forum included Hyacinth Turnoe, the councillor representing Enenaezeraku ward in Ohaozora LG of Ebonyi state; national coordinator, ST/HT Grassroots coordinators of development, and Okorie Rapheal, national coordinator of the citizens Network for Peace and Development.
On his part, Rapheal asked Nigerians to give the national assembly a chance to deliver on the amended version of the Electoral Act.
