2027: Why Makinde will defeat Tinubu, APM outlines

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has outlined why it believes Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde would defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the governor’s governance record, economic reforms and growing national appeal.

The party said Makinde’s performance in Oyo State, particularly what it described as the transformation of the state’s economy and delivery of infrastructure and governance reforms, has positioned him as a credible alternative that many Nigerians would support at the national level.

The APM made the assertion in a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, while reacting to remarks attributed to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, who reportedly dismissed Makinde as politically inconsequential.

According to the party, attacks on the Oyo State governor by presidential aides reflect growing anxiety within the Presidency over Makinde’s rising political profile ahead of the 2027 election.

Yusuf said rather than defend the administration’s performance, the Presidency had resorted to attacking political opponents.

“The decision to deploy presidential aides to criticise Governor Makinde only shows a lack of confidence in the administration’s achievements. The 2027 election will determine who is truly inconsequential,” he said.

The APM also referenced Bwala’s interview with Al Jazeera earlier this year, saying Nigerians were already familiar with what it described as the communication style of the current administration.

“Daniel Bwala will soon eat his own words against Governor Makinde,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its confidence in the Oyo governor, the party maintained that the 2027 presidential election would be a straight contest between Makinde and Tinubu.

“President Tinubu should be worried because Governor Makinde is coming into the contest with an intimidating record of performance, including transforming Oyo State into one of the country’s leading economies, a feat Nigerians want replicated at the national level,” Yusuf said.
