There had been serious concern about whether the incumbent governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-olu, would have a second term. Meanwhile, all indication had continued to point in the direction that the populace and members of his party, APC, want him to continue his impressive run as the governor of Lagos state.
In what could be described as an endorsement for the amiable governor, Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri Okunola came issued a statement to deny nursing ambition to take over Sanwo-olu’s job in the state. The clarification came when detractors went to town syndicating a tale saying Okunola was having a cold war with the governor over the former’s alleged governorship ambition.
Another that was like it, was the rumor which was equally handiwork of detractors that the speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt.Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila was alleged to be having a running battle with Sanwo-olu over the speaker’s speculated governorship ambition against 2023.
Gbajabiamila in a public space verbally discredited the tale. He however went ahead to eulogize governor Sanwo-olu for his exceptional performance in the state as he added that another term could only be accorded the governor, not just as compensation for his excellent work but to allow him conclude the great works he has initiated.
The president of the senate, Ahmed Lawan also lend his voice to endorsing Sanwo-olu for another term when he said he it recently, that the governor has done very well to be endorsed for another term.
Also, the governor, some days back at a novelty match organized in honor of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who turned 70th this month, got endorsed by the presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu.
Asiwaju who was standing with governor Sanwo-olu had raised two fingers on both hands which is synonymous with a double term of office in Nigeria’s political space.
Of course, some doubting Thomases still struggled in attempt to discard that instructive sign but a final affirmation that Sanwo-olu will be running for another term has been unveiled. As it is, banners and pictures of Sanwo-olu indicating his interest in second term has taken over the Eagle Square, Abuja, the venue of APC convention on Saturday, 26th March.
Pundicts have equally agreed Sanwo-olu is gunning for another term as he’s not known to be flippant that he would engage in things that are unreal.
Meanwhile, it is on record millions of lagosians have been clamoring that Sanwo-olu should return for another term to conclude the unprecedented great works he initiated in the state.
