We were deeply disappointed by the Chairman’s recent visit to Agboyi on Wednesday 7th August 2024, where he sought to halt the foundation of the secondary school over a flimsy excuse that he was not informed by the federal government , apart from being disgraceful, it also shows a total disrespect to our community leaders, that an executive chairman of such we descend in such a shameful manner to chase workers set to build a project which supposed to be is own landmarks achievement in almost eight years of his administration if he actually prioritise community demand as Both SUBEB and the traditional leaders in Agboyi have been on the process for several years. several teams from the ministry of education has also visited the site of the school to see how to achieve the landmark project.
We want to say that such action had never been seen in Agboyi or any part of Lagos since the land grabbing laws had been enacted by the Lagos state house of assembly but to our surprise a case of omo Onile land grabbing scenarios where workers will be sent out of construction site by hoodlums with the aid of fully armed police officers was carried out by Mr Dele Osinowo. We expect that a local government chairman who has not lost connections with his people will communicate with the leaders of the communities and discuss instead of attempting to chase the workers out of the site.
We hereby comnend our youths who resisted the action of Dele Osinowo and his gang despite the intimidation by his fully armed police officers to stop the foundations laying of the school project.
We want to ask the chairman what he was looking in his almost 8 years in government without considering the demand of the people of Agboyi as regards the school which was part of his electoral promises since almost 8 years in office.
However, we also want to use this medium to remind him that he is yet to commission a single project in Agboyi ward F( federal ward) which comprises of Agboyi oruba two and Agboyi Oruba three. Also to mention that , he only has a single commissioned project in Agboyi 1 ward E which was a water bore hole in Agboyi ward H federal (ward) which comprises of Agboyi 1, Odoyi oko agbon , Owoyele Aro estate, Araromi Ilaje. at such, he has no moral ground to come to Agboyi to chase contractors working to build a school by the federal government.
The APU wishes to remind him of the worst condition of the only government school in Agboyi which was established in 1855 and rebuilt in 1895. it’s not only deserting that such a glorious historical edifice will be left in shambles without a facelift, we are already saving to get our school fixed as the renovation of our school matters to us.
While we acknowledge the complexities of governance, we urge the Chairman to consider the broader needs of the community and to align his actions with the aspirations of the people he serves. The legacy of past leaders, such as Asiwaju and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is revered in large part due to their commitment to infrastructural development and the well-being of their constituents. We believe that similar dedication is needed in Agboyi to ensure that the community’s development is not hindered.
The creation of the LCDA was supposed to be a blessing to Agboyi community but unfortunately the reverse was the case, our chairman has no single projects in Agboyi 1,2,3 in his 4 years of first term either on going or commissioned. A single commissioned borehole in almost 8 years. We also urge him to hurriedly complete is long overdue ongoing recreational center which has been ongoing for years. We wondered how a chairman with a single project in Agboyi would be ranked 2nd best, what an irony we guess it was from behind.
We respectfully call upon Governor Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Rt. Hon. Ajayi Obasa to take note of the situation in Agboyi island two federal Wards and to provide the necessary guidance to ensure that development projects, particularly those related to education, are allowed to proceed without unnecessary obstacles. We also call on our members of the state assembly hon Femi Saheed to learn a voice into the neglect of Agboyi communities by the leadership of Agboyi ketu LCDA. We call on hon Ganiu Okanlawon Sanni to also use is office as the chairman house committee on local government to see that local government chairmen prioritise people’s need.
Finally, the APU extends its gratitude to honourable members of the House of Representatives representing Kosofe Federal constituency, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara” for her commitment to the community and for listening to the voices of Agboyi residents by supporting and facilitating the establishment of the ongoing secondary school. We sincerely hope that this project will be allowed to continue, as it represents a crucial investment in the future of our youth and the overall development of Agboyi. we welcome everyone with developmental support in our communities.
