ADC tackes Atiku over zoning comment, denies alleged membership drive

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Friday, disowned a purported membership drive allegedly initiated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other coalition members, describing the move as unauthorised and illegitimate.

The party urged its members to remain vigilant and report any unauthorised membership registration or related activities to the appropriate authorities.

In a statement by the party’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the ADC described the development as an unauthorised attempt to undermine its legitimate leadership.

He declared that any membership cards or affiliations issued through such a process are null and void.

Okechukwu said, “The party wishes to state unequivocally that any membership cards or affiliations issued by these individuals are null, void, and of no effect.

“The ADC views the actions of these coalition members as a blatant attempt to usurp the party from its legitimate leadership, and their desperation is palpable.

“The party alerts its members and the general public to beware of these individuals, who are attempting to hijack the party in broad daylight.

“The ADC condemns these actions in the strongest terms and advises all concerned parties to disregard any membership cards or affiliations purportedly issued by these individuals, who are deemed to be engaging in unauthorised and illegitimate activities.

“Members are urged to remain vigilant and report any such attempts to the relevant authorities.

The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to serve notice to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that his attempts to unilaterally determine the party’s stance on zoning the presidency are unacceptable.”

The ADC stressed that decisions on internal matters, including zoning arrangements, would be determined solely by its constitution and its established democratic processes.

He said: “The party emphasises that the ADC is an independent entity, not a personal fiefdom where individual interests supersede the collective will of its members.

“As such, decisions regarding the party’s internal affairs, including the zoning of the presidency, will be made by the party’s legitimate leadership and membership, without external influence or dictate.

“The party will not entertain any attempts to impose external agendas or dictate the course of its internal processes. The ADC’s leadership will continue to act in the best interests of the party and its members, in accordance with its constitution and democratic principles.”
