Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, have apprehended several individuals suspected of destroying farmlands and crops in Ipogun, Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was carried out allegedly by herdsmen.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. Olaleye Akinola, described the act as “totally unacceptable” and warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated.

Following the attack, Amotekun launched an investigation and subsequently made arrests in a bid to bring the culprits to justice.

The commissioner appealed to farmers in the state to work closely with Amotekun to aid ongoing investigations, uncover those responsible, and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.

Akinola, who commiserated with the affected farmers, acknowledged the damaging effect such destruction could have on their livelihoods and on the government’s food security agenda.

“Our government will not tolerate any form of destruction or harassment of our farmers. I also charge all farmers to be security-conscious around their farms and report any suspicious movements or activities to the relevant authorities,” he added.

He further called on stakeholders across the agricultural sector to join forces with the government to curb insecurity in farming communities.
