Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, criticising his repeated switches between political parties.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike said Atiku’s political journey has been marked by consistent party defections since 1999, reflecting an unrelenting quest for the presidency.
“Atiku started with the PDP in 1999, moved to the Action Congress (AC), returned to PDP, then joined the APC, and again went back to PDP,” Wike said. “Now, he’s with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), still chasing the presidential ticket.”
Wike added that if he were Atiku’s son, he would have advised him to reconsider the constant political migrations, especially at his advanced age.
“How do you keep hopping from one party to another at almost 80 years old?” he asked rhetorically.
The minister dismissed the recent coalition of opposition parties against President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a reaction to Atiku’s dwindling chances of securing the PDP’s presidential ticket.
Wike insisted that Atiku’s departure from the PDP was not based on principle but on personal political survival.
“He left because he knows he won’t get the ticket. So now he’s pushing for a coalition. That’s not the way to go,” he stated.
