BON AWARDS WAS FIRST EVENT AT THE DOME – FOUNDER SEUN OLOKETUYI CELEBRATES NAMING AFTER MIMIKO, THANKS ONDO GOVT
The Founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards and Chairman of Ultimate Communications, Mr. Seun Oloketuyi, has hailed the renaming of the International Centre for Culture and Events, The Dome, Akure after former Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as a most deserving honour, while thanking the Ondo State Government for its foresight.
I received with immense joy and personal fulfillment the news that His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has renamed The Dome as Dr. Olusegun Mimiko International Centre for Culture and Events.
This honour is doubly special to me and the entire BON Awards family.
For the record, the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards was the very first event ever held at The Dome when it was commissioned. On December 12, 2015, we made history together – Dr. Mimiko as Governor hosted us, and we brought the entire Nigerian film industry to Akure to christen that magnificent edifice. From Funke Akindele to Oga Bello, from Governor Mimiko to the late Rotimi Akeredolu, the stars gathered under that roof for the first time. So we are not just observers; we are part of the history of The Dome.
To now see that same edifice named after the man who dreamt it, designed it and built it from scratch, is poetic justice and a full circle moment.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has displayed rare statesmanship. He has shown that in Ondo State, we celebrate our builders regardless of political affiliation. This is leadership beyond politics. By preserving Mimiko’s legacy, he has taught our young people that good work will be remembered.
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is more than a former Governor to me; he is a mentor, a father figure, and a champion of culture and youth development whose free education, Abiye health, and cultural investments remain unmatched.
On behalf of the BON Awards Board, I express profound gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Executive Council, and the good people of Ondo State for this noble act.
