Easter: NSCDC deploys 57,000 personnel nationwide

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed over 57,000 officers across the country ahead of the Easter celebrations to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful holiday period.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, approved the nationwide mobilisation, which includes specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives tasked with protecting lives, property and critical national assets.

According to a statement on Thursday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the deployment will cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of proactive measures to address potential security threats during the festive period.

He noted that high-traffic locations such as churches, shopping complexes, parks and recreational centres would be placed under strict surveillance, with both overt patrols and covert operatives deployed to prevent criminal activities.

Babawale said, “In anticipation of the upcoming Easter celebrations, the Commandant General of the NSCDC has sanctioned the mobilisation of over 57,000 officers. This massive deployment, which includes specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives, is designed to fortify national security and guarantee a peaceful holiday period for all citizens. The strategic operation spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It serves as a proactive measure to address potential security threats while ensuring the absolute protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.”

Under the directive of the Commandant General, Zonal Commanders, State Commandants and Provosts of Colleges have been instructed to coordinate comprehensive security operations within their respective jurisdictions.

“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order. I also urge parents and guardians to guide their children properly, ensuring they are not manipulated into engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace,”he said.

He emphasised the need for heightened vigilance, effective intelligence sharing and rapid response to public reports, noting that collaboration with other security agencies would be critical to the success of the operation.

Babawale also said the corps has placed its specialised units, including the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad and the Crack Squad, on maximum alert to respond swiftly to any security threat.

The NSCDC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation during the Easter period.

The Federal Government on Wednesday announced Friday and Monday as public holidays to celebrate Easter.
