Ekiti 2026: Party members petition APC, seek Kayode Ojo’s disqualification

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State have petitioned the party’s Governorship Screening Committee, demanding the disqualification of governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo, from the 2025 primaries.

Addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Jogunola Joel Tolani, Mr. Alake Busuyi, and Mr. Tayo Ogunlusi said they represented over 50 concerned party members who endorsed the petition.

The petitioners alleged that Ojo’s nomination form contained irregularities. They claimed that out of 122 listed nominators, 68 were not valid APC members, leaving only 54 valid names—below the required minimum of 80.

They also argued that Ojo failed to meet the mandatory geographic spread of nominators across local government areas, a key eligibility criterion in the party’s guidelines.

Despite these alleged flaws, Ojo reportedly declared full compliance with party requirements. The petitioners described this as “deceitful” and said it undermined the APC’s values of honesty and transparency.

“The integrity of our party’s selection process must not be compromised,” Tolani said. “We trust the Screening Committee to demonstrate courage and fairness in its decision.”

They also urged party members and the public to remain vigilant in order to prevent any breach of APC rules ahead of the 2025 governorship primary.

In response, Ojo’s spokesman, Alhaji Deji Ayelabowo, dismissed the petitioners as “jesters and desperate people,” insisting that “nobody can stop Engr. Kayode Ojo from contesting the Ekiti 2026 governorship election. Nobody can undo what God has done.”
