Senator Abbo emerges LP gov candidate in Adamawa

Former senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Abbo’s emergence as the party’s consensus flag bearer followed his official clearance by the national leadership of the Labour Party on Saturday.

The development comes barely one week after he was screened at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

With the ticket secured, Abbo is expected to face the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Galadima, as well as Aishatu Binani of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in what is shaping up to be a keenly contested governorship race.

Speaking after securing the party’s ticket, Abbo reaffirmed his commitment to providing purposeful leadership, economic revitalisation, youth empowerment and improved infrastructure across Adamawa State.

The former lawmaker stressed the need for inclusive governance that prioritises citizens’ welfare, job creation, education, healthcare and security.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday, Abbo expressed confidence in his chances at the poll.

He said, “By this time next year, 29th May 2027, I will be sworn in as Governor of Adamawa State. Congratulate me in advance.”

His emergence is expected to heighten political activities in Adamawa as parties and key stakeholders intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.

With the Labour Party ticket now in hand, Abbo is expected to begin consultations and grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 21 local government areas in a bid to strengthen support ahead of the election.
