Emeka Ihedioha’s exit triggers exodus from Imo PDP

Following the recent exit of former governor of Imo State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, members of the party from the entire Nguru Nwenkwo ward in Mbaise nation have followed suit en-masse.

Recall that Ihedioha had on April 24 tendered his letter of resignation from the opposition party, leading to an unprecedented massive resignation of leading members of the PDP in Imo State, in solidarity with the former acting Speaker of the House of Representatives,

The Nguru Nwenkwo ward apex leader, Nze Obinna Njoku, disclosed this on Tuesday while fielding questions from journalists at Mbaise.

He said they quit the party because it could not present credible opposition when it mattered most against the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Njoku said, “The people of Nguru Nwenkwo ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area considered it expedient to quit the PDP as they have lost their strength as a credible opposition.”

How on earth can one be a member of a ruling APC and at the same time, be a card-carrying member of the PDP, creating unrest for both the governor and people loyal to the party? I describe the situation as unfortunate.”

Njoku equally described the people of Nguru Nwenkwo ward as obedient and staunch followers of Ihedioha and equally assured that whichever party the former governor joins, would be the destination of his (Ihedioha’s) followers.

Earlier, the image maker of the party, Nze Marcellinus Oharu, had demanded to know if any sane person would remain under a torn umbrella for protection during a torrential rainfall.

Oharu described the unrest in the PDP as man-made, maintaining that a tree cannot make a forest, but can be outstanding in the forest.

Adding his voice, some of the resignees, Mrs. Ogechi Nwachukwu-Uduaku, Mrs. Ignatius Anyanwu, Nze Ugochukwu Nwachukwu, Chidi Uneze, Sir Bob Ugo, Mrs. Elizabeth Opara and Emeka Njoku all stated with one voice that the exodus from the PDP was an indication that Ihedioha is a mirror and a man of proven integrity, who has been tested and trusted.

They said, “Ihedioha’s campaign slogan of ‘My word is my bond,’ shows really who he is. He is not deceptive.”

More than 7,000 members of PDP in Imo State had resigned their membership of the party in loyalty to the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
