EU Partners Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 to Advance Sustainable Fashion and Green Enterprise
The European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS is supporting Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 to promote sustainable fashion, circular production and green enterprise, while encouraging more environmentally responsible practices across Nigeria’s fashion industry.
The partnership will support the Going Green 5 Initiative, a central component of Nigeria Fashion Week 2026, under the theme “Beyond the Runway: Fashion and Culture at the Heart of the Green & Blue Economy.”
The initiative will promote recycling, upcycling, creative reuse and responsible sourcing as practical ways to reduce waste, extend the life of materials and create new opportunities for designers, entrepreneurs and businesses.
A major feature will be the Going Green Collection, a signature runway showcase featuring Nigerian and international designers working with recycled, upcycled, reclaimed and other environmentally responsible materials.
The collection will show how materials that might otherwise become waste can be transformed through design and innovation into products with creative and commercial value.
Speaking on the partnership, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, said the initiative builds on the EU’s wider cooperation with Nigeria to promote a greener and more circular economy.
“The European Union has been working with Nigeria to advance the circular economy, reduce waste and promote more sustainable patterns of production and consumption. Fashion is an important part of this conversation.
Nigeria has an exceptionally creative and entrepreneurial fashion industry, and there is enormous potential to turn materials that would otherwise become waste into new products, businesses and economic opportunities.”
Ambassador Mignot said the partnership with Nigeria Fashion Week provides an opportunity to take the circular economy conversation directly to designers, entrepreneurs and consumers.
“Sustainability must ultimately translate into the choices we make about what we produce, how we produce it and what happens to materials after they have been used. By encouraging recycling, upcycling and responsible production, the fashion industry can reduce its environmental footprint while creating opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship and jobs, particularly for young people.”
The partnership will also support the Trees for Nigeria Campaign, an environmental initiative of Nigeria Fashion Week. Designers, models, young people, government representatives, development partners, celebrities, guests and international delegates will participate in tree-planting and environmental awareness activities.
Beyond the runway, Nigeria Fashion Week will provide opportunities for dialogue and engagement on the circular economy, sustainable fashion, green innovation, youth entrepreneurship and responsible production. Designers, manufacturers, policymakers, investors, environmental practitioners, development partners and young creatives will discuss practical approaches to sustainability and explore how environmentally responsible production can support the long-term growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s fashion industry.
Lexy Mojo-Eyes, President of Nigeria Fashion Week and President/CEO of Legendary Gold Limited, said the collaboration represents an important step in connecting Nigeria’s fashion industry with the sustainability agenda.
“Fashion has the power to influence how people live, consume and produce. Through Going Green 5, we want to demonstrate that Nigeria’s creative economy can be a powerful driver of environmental responsibility, innovation and sustainable enterprise.
The European Union’s partnership strengthens this vision and gives the initiative an important international dimension.”
Nigeria Fashion Week 2026 will take place from 2–4 October 2026 in Abuja, bringing together Nigerian and international designers, buyers, retailers, manufacturers, investors, policymakers, media, diplomats and creative-industry stakeholders.
The three-day programme will feature runway showcases, exhibitions, business engagements, the Nigeria Fashion Entrepreneurs Forum, sustainability activities and the Nigeria Fashion Awards.
The partnership builds on the European Union’s wider cooperation with Nigeria on the green and circular economy and brings that conversation into the country’s growing creative sector. It also highlights the potential for sustainable fashion to create economic opportunities, support entrepreneurship and encourage more responsible production and consumption.
