Ex-Imo deputy gov, Madumere dumps APC for PDP
The former deputy governor of Imo State, Ezeakonobi Madumere, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and accused the party of straying from its core objectives.
Madumere made this announcement during his official unveiling as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the party secretariat in Owerri over the weekend.
He is a senatorial aspirant for Owerri Zone and expressed his dissatisfaction with the APC, stating that it does not reward loyalty and frequently disrespects and marginalises members who have devoted themselves to the unity, progress, and development of the party.
While commending PDP members and leaders in the state, especially National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, Madumere praised their leadership, commitment, and steadfastness, which he believes have inspired confidence in the party’s future.
He clarified that his departure from the APC is not motivated by malice but is a necessary step. Madumere stated that his decision to join the PDP is based on his conviction that the party represents the most credible platform for rebuilding Imo State, restoring the dignity of its people, and delivering effective governance.
He said: “I have come not as a stranger, but as a brother and partner ready to work with you for the progress of our state”.
The former deputy governor to the former governor Rochas Okorocha under APC recalled that over 2 decades, when he joined politics, his reason was for good governance, reward for loyalty and development of the society, but regretted that such objectives can no longer be realised within the APC as presently constituted.
He said: “I have chosen to join PDP because of its ideas, philosophy, direction aligned with his political aspirations and ideology. I see in this new chapter a sense of hope and renewed- a platform dedicated to real transformation and progress”.
He insisted that Imo State need healing, direction, leadership that is people-oriented, inclusive and forward thinking, assuring that under PDP, such needed leadership can be achieved.
The former Chief of Staff of Imo Government House assured to contribute to strengthening the party unity, deepen grassroots mobilisation, and promote internal democracy
He also promised to work hard to attract new supporters, especially the vibrant youths and to ensure that the party remains the true voice of the people.
He said: “I am here to add value, not division, to build bridges, not walls and to move the party forward with sincerity and purpose”.
