Ex-Ondo Governor Mimiko Resigns from PDP
Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after resigning from the party.
Mimiko’s resignation from the PDP was contained in a letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 7 in the Ondo West Local Government Area.
Mimiko, in the letter, stated that his decision was necessitated by persistent speculation regarding his political status.
The former governor noted that his prolonged absence from active party engagement made it imperative to clarify his position, declaring unequivocally that he is no longer a member of the party.
He emphasised that his resignation was taken without ill will toward any individual or group.
The letter read: “I hereby tender my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective April 10, 2026, for strictly personal reasons.
“As you are very much aware, I have somewhat distanced myself from party activities for some time. This stance afforded me a great deal of time to reflect and consult widely, upon which the decision to quit the PDP was taken.
“I, however, assure you that I remain committed to the overall well-being of our country and its democratic process and will continue to work with like-minded individuals to advance these causes.
“Let me add that I take the decision to resign my membership of the PDP without animosity toward anyone and wish the party well in its future endeavours.”
A former Chief Press Secretary to Mimiko, Eni Akinsola, confirmed the development, stating that the ex-governor has indeed submitted his resignation letter, although he declined to provide further details on the next political move of the former governor.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that Mimiko might be on his way to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his purported recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
