Exclusive! Edo Dep Gov fingered in Labour Party crisis

Edo State Deputy governor, Philip Shaibu has been mentioned in the leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party.

Recall that an Abuja High Court restrained the Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, the party’s Secretary, Farouk Ibrahim, and two others from acting as the party’s national officials over alleged improprieties levelled at them by one James Onoja.

The order was followed by the Party National Deputy Chairman (Southwest) Lamidi Apapa assuming Abure’s position in acting capacity to the displeasure of the embattled Chairman’s camp.

The woe that is betiding Abure, is threatening deputy governor’s plan to succeed Gov. Godwin Obaseki, Justnews.ng exclusively gathered.

Prior to Abure’s ordeal, he was said to have an understanding with Shaibu of the Peoples Democratic Party on running for the state governorship on the platform of the Labour Party.

The latter won the just concluded presidential election in the state, with many of its candidates winning seats to the state and national assembly.

Sources credited Shaibu with the latest Edo High Court’s injunction that reinstated the embattled LP chief, an account, the former’s spokesperson, Ebomhiana Musa disclaimed.

On enquiry by our correspondent, Musa retorted, “All these are tissues of lies. There is no iota of truth in any of these allegations. The deputy governor of Edo State is not a member of Labour Party. He has no business with whatever they do in Labour Party. If Labour Party have issues and they can’t resolve it themselves, why should they drag the deputy governor in to it? They should go and resolve themselves and leave the deputy governor out of it. Deputy governor is not a member of Labour Party, he’s a member of PDP, so Labour Party can not have issues and drag innocent man into their issues. And whoever that is making the allegation, let him put his name there. By the time he puts it out there, then we meet in court.”
